What is the Interwise Java Participant?
The Interwise Java Participant enables users to participate in live Events as well as to playback Interwise recordings. The Interwise system supports a mixed-environment, allowing Participants using the Interwise Java Participant or the Interwise Participant application to take part in the same Event simultaneously and seamlessly.
The Interwise Participant application requires 2.76 MB of disk space (install from the web), while the extremely light-weight Interwise Java Participant takes a mere 700 KB! From Version 4.2 and above, the Java Participant is included in the installation of the ICC and can be distributed in a variety of languages.
Does Interwise software support advanced network equipment such as web proxies and firewalls?
Interwise Moderator and Participant utilize state of the art technology to be compatible with 99.9% of network and security hardware.
By going to Start - Programs - Interwise - Interwise Participant Options or Interwise Moderator Options and selecting the Tunnel Tab, you can select multiple configurations that may be better suited for your particular network configuration.
To work with most firewalls and web proxies, Interwise suggests setting the Tunnel Type to 'Full' and setting the proxy settings to 'Automatic Proxy Detection'.
If you are still experiencing problems, please change the proxy settings to 'Manual Proxy Settings' and obtain the proxy information from your IT professional.
What are the minimum bandwidth requirements for participating in a live Interwise session?
The minimum bandwidth requirements for an Interwise lesson are listed below. Please note that falling underneath these requirements will cause delays in the lesson, breaks in the voice, and in more severe cases, disconnection.
It is also important to be aware that a computer's connection speed may be affected by infrastructure external to the computer. This means that a student connecting with a 56 Kbps modem may actually have a bandwidth speed of 28.8 Kbps (or less!) if the Internet Service Provider is suffering from slow-downs, packet-jams, or other problems.
28.8 Kbps - Voice and Slides
33.6 Kbps - Voice, Slides, and Application Sharing
64 Kbps - Voice, Slides, App. Sharing, and Live Streaming Video
What if I cannot hear an instructor using voice-over IP?
Check connections to make sure you have the microphone and headphones in their correct jacks.
Check the mute button for the speaker and microphone.
What if I cannot get my headset to work (assuming this was already installed)?
Check the connections to make sure they are in the correct jack for the microphone and speaker.
Check the mute button for the speaker and microphone.
Check the settings for your sound in the control panel: Start-Settings-Control Panel-Sound and Audio Devices.
What if I cannot be heard during an Interwise event?
Here is a list of ideas to attempt to rectify your situation:
Adjust your microphone volume by using the vertical lever on the left hand side of your Interwise Participant.
Check microphone volume control in Operating System.
Make sure that you are holding down CTRL when speaking.
What should I do if I cannot hear any other Interwise participants during an event?
Check to see if the Participant is speaking by looking at the status indicator at the top of the Participant window.
Adjust the speaker volume by using the vertical lever on the left hand side of your Interwise Participant.
Check the speaker volume control in Operating System.
What should I do if I fail to connect to the server?
The Interwise Participant application attempts to connect over multiple Internet protocols and with an array of proxy information. However, there may be times that the Participant application will need manual information to connect to events. Here are some troubleshooting tips to attempt to make the connection to Interwise events as smooth as possible:
Is the event on air and are other participants connected?
Exit the Interwise Participant application, go to your Start Menu - Programs - Interwise - Interwise Participant Options and click on the Tunnel Tab. Change the Tunnel Type to 'Full'. Attempt to reconnect to your event.
Exit the Interwise Participant application, go to your Start Menu - Programs - Interwise - Interwise Participant Options. and click on the Tunnel Tab. Select 'Manual Proxy Settings' and input the proxy server address and the port number. This data can be obtained from your IT Professional.
Will I receive the event materials in advance?
Interwise utilizes a state of the art technology known as Push. Our Push technology will deliver the event materials in advance of the event. The Push technology will use a limited amount of bandwidth on your machine to ensure that the materials will be available for use when you enter the event. For the "Push" to operate correctly, you must be registered to the event and event materials must have been assigned to the event.
Why can't I see the materials on the whiteboard?
If you are currently downloading the materials, they may not appear until the download is complete. To tell if you are downloading materials, check to see if there are spinning arrows in the materials section of the status bar of the Participant application. If the materials are downloading, please be patient until the download is complete.
Why can't I see the animated PowerPoint slides on the whiteboard?
Interwise Participant requires at least PowerPoint Viewer 97. The viewer can be downloaded from the ICC you are connecting too. Please contact your Interwise moderator for more information.
